Joanne Messenlehner Ruth Luse
The Pennsylvania Federation of Democratic Women was founded in 1927 to promote the election of Democratic women to responsible positions within all branches of government, to encourage the advancement of women, and to advocate the principles of the Democratic party. There are over 2,000 members in local affiliates throughout Pennsylvania. The group neither endorses nor backs candidates in primary elections, and actively supports the nominees of the Democratic party in the general election. Through its Political Action Committee, it provides financial assistance to Democratic women for local, state and federal offices. Each year, scholarships are awarded to women whose need and dedication to Democratic principles are noteworthy.
