“82 YEARS AND STILL ROARING”
As we roar through the decades of the Roaring 20’s, Swinging 40’s, Fabulous 50’s and Disco 70’s. We want you to reminisce about those special moments in time. ELVIS will make an appearance for the 50’s Banquet. As we celebrate the decades you are invited to join us in your special costume worn to the banquets and to our formal inaugural ball. A special Saturday night formal Inaugural Ball is in the planning stages.
Workshops: Don’t miss the great workshops being planned.
Thursday Movie night: Showing Iron Jawed Angels
IRON JAWED ANGELS recounts for a contemporary audience a key chapter in U.S. history: in this case, the struggle of suffragists who fought for the passage of the 19th Amendment. Focusing on the two defiant women, Alice Paul (Hilary Swank) and Lucy Burns (Frances O'Connor), the film shows how these activists broke from the mainstream women's-rights movement and created a more radical wing, daring to push the boundaries of political protest to secure women's voting rights in 1920. Breathing life into the relationships between Paul, Burns and others, the movie makes the women feel like complete characters instead of one-dimensional figures from a distant past.
PRESIDENT JAMES BUCHANAN, 15th President, will be on hand and has invited us to tour his home and lunch on the lawn of the estate on Thursday June 11, 2009.
So it is with great enthusiasm we invite you to the 2009 Pennsylvania Federation of Democratic Women hosted by the Lancaster County Democratic Women’s Association.
We hope you will set aside the dates June 11-14 2009 for the PFDW Convention, start saving your money and join us networking with women across the great state of Pennsylvania.
