The 2009 Memorial Scholarship award was held in honor of Lt Governor Catherine Baker Knoll with Catherine’s daughter Mina Baker Knoll in attendance
Samantha Shewmaker lives in Myerstown and attends Millersville University where she majors in English with a minor in International Studies. Her activities include secretary of MU Amnesty International and Amnesty International's Student Area Coordinator for South Central PA. She is also the Co-Community Chair of the Delta Phi Eta Honors Sorority and a member of Lancaster County Democratic Women's Association. She chaired the Thursday Banquet at the Convention.
Gina Donimick lives in Latrobe and attends Washington & Jefferson College majoring in English with a minor in Spanish. She is a member of the Young Democrats Club and Editor of the school newspaper. Her family is heavily involved with the Democratic Party in western Pennsylvania and her experience includes writing a column for her high school magazine titled "A Look to the Left". Gina also took an active role in the Obama campaign.
Courtney Kennedy lives in Jermyn and attends Bloomsburg University studying Special Education/Elementary Education. She is 2nd Vice President of Theta Tau Omega Sorority. Courtney volunteers with Ronald McDonald House in Danville, Kids Fun at Bloomsburg University and has spent two summers as an ARC Summer Camp counselor. Her grandmother, Edith McLane is a founding member of the Lackawanna County Federation of Democratic Women.
Kayla Kichline lives in Allentown and attends Lycoming College where she is majoring in Biology. Kayla is Co-Captain of the Lycoming College Dance Club and tutors elementary students during the school year. She just returned from a trip to Central America where she studied Marine Biology and will spend the summer as an intern at and eastern Pennsylvania Zoo.
Kayla wants to learn more about the world's oceans in order to understand and improve that environment.
